Taxman to use debt collection agencies to recover unpaid tax.

11/08/2010

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has announced that HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will use debt collectors to recover un-paid taxes worth £140 million throughout 2010-2011. HRMC have outsourced the service to four different collections agencies to boost HMRC’s debt collection capacity and help the pursuit of lower value debts.
Nick Lodge, HMRC Director, Debt Management and Banking, said:
"Debt Collection Agencies give HMRC vital additional capacity, strengthening our ability to pursue the debts of those who decline to pay...Those who simply refuse to pay have to be pursued, and our partnership with Debt Collection Agencies ensures they will be."
